Evolution of research hotspots in chronic comorbidities with sarcopenia:a bibliometric and visualization analysis of literatures from 2005 to 2025
Objective To analyze the research hotspots and development trends of chronic co-morbidities with sarcopenia from 2005 to 2025.Methods Based on the Web of Science Core Collec-tion database, relevant literatures on chronic comorbidities and sarcopenia published from January 1,2005 to September 10,2025 were retrieved.Visualization analyses of the screened literatures were conducted in terms of publication volume, countries or regions, institutions, authors, references, and keywords using software such as V0Sviewer,CiteSpace,and Scimago Graphica. Results A total of 939 articles were included in this study, with an overall upward trend in publication volume.A rapid growth phase began after 2013,reaching a peak in 2024.The United States had the highest number of publications(218 articles, accounting for 23.22%),while Italy had the highest average citation rate per article with 66.90 times. In terms of institutional analysis, the University of Melbourne had the highest number of publications with 18 articles. The authors with the highest number of publications were Liang-Kung Chen and Francesco Landi, with 10 articles each. The most frequently cited reference was"Inflammageing:chronic inflammation in aging, cardiovascular disease, and frailty"(2 288 cita-tions).Keyword analysis revealed that research focused on sarcopenia, frailty, chronic comorbidities, aging, grip strength, gut microbiota, and comprehensive geriatric assessment. Conclusion Research on chronic comorbidities and sarcopenia develops rapidly. This study, based on integrated analysis using multimodal softwares(VOSviewer,CiteSpace),reveals emerging hotspots such as gut micro-biota and vitamin D.Future efforts should focus on strengthening early identification,multidiscipli-nary collaboration, and comprehensive interventions involving exercise and nutrition to improve patients' outcomes.
