For the long-distance pipelines with diameter up to 508 mm,the submerged-arc helical welded steel pipes,the longitudinal high-frequency resistance welded steel pipes,or the seamless steel pipes are generally used in the regular sections,while the seamless steel pipes or the submerged-arc longitudinal welded steel pipes are commonly employed for the directional drilling crossing pipelines.The incorporation of the two different types of steel pipes during the construction introduces the difficulties in the procurement,material allocation,and welding procedure selection,thereby impeding the construction project.To optimize the selection principles for steel pipe types in oil and gas long-distance pipeline projects with diameters up to 508 mm,this study systematically investigates the applicability of various steel pipe types in regular sections and crossing sections through interpretation of standards and specifications,analysis of the performance of different steel pipe types,stress calculations for directional drilling,and consideration of the development trends in automatic welding technology.The research indicates that for pipelines with diameters up to 508 mm,a single type either submerged-arc helical welded steel pipes,the longitudinal high-frequency resistance welded steel pipe,or the seamless steel pipe can be selected for the entire project.This approach is more conducive to simplifying the procurement and construction processes while also satisfying the mechanical performance requirements of the directional drilling sections and the technical demands of automatic welding.By optimizing the selection principles for steel pipe types in long-distance pipelines with diameters up to 508 mm,project implementation efficiency can be effectively enhanced,and the complexities of procurement and welding can be reduced.
