In Jin Gui Yao Lue·Huang Dan Bing Mai Zheng Bing Zhi,it is stated that"symptoms of abdominal fullness,yellow and weak tongue as well as restlessness and inability to sleep belong to the disease of"Shu Huang Jia".Medical practitioners of different e-ras have interpreted the connotations of this article in various ways:regarding the differentiation of Cold and Heat,ancient doctors mostly agreed with the notion of Damp-Heat kind of jaundice,while modern practice often uses Cold-Damp jaundice as the standard;in the distinction of deficiency and excess syndrome,most physicians consider"abdominal fullness"as excess and"restlessness and inability to sleep"as deficiency.Through literature review,collation,and summarization,it is understood that the term"Shu Huang Jia"repre-sents internal accumulation of Damp-Heat,Heat in blood injuring the Yin,forming a state that combines deficiency and excess,with defi-ciency underlying and excess manifesting.Clinically,when encountering similar patients,physicians should not merely expel pathogenic factors while neglecting to strengthen the Zheng Qi,and treatment with modified Zhugaofa Decoction can be considered.Clarifying the con-notation of"Shu Huang Jia"provides guidance for the treatment of patients with decompensated cirrhosis ascites in modern practice.
