Ro-ro terminals are special in comparison with common terminals.The design essentials of ro-ro terminals were analyzed and summarized based on Ro-ro terminal phase-1 project at the comprehensive harbor of Huanghua port,which provided a reference for the subsequent design.The design of automobile ro-ro terminals should be optimized from the aspect of general layout,covering the berth area,yard area and value-added service area.Meanwhile,more attention should be paid to the design of berth length and terminal surface elevation.In view of complex functions of passenger-cargo ro-ro terminals,the vehicle ro-ro operation area should be separated from the passenger area in order to optimize the traffic organization.The wharf equipment should be able to adapt to the change in ship type and water level in the design,and ensured safe operation.
