Varicocele refers to a vascular disease in which the plexus of veins within the spermatic cord is abnormally elongated,dilated,and tortuous.It is a common cause of male infertility.Numerous studies have shown that varicocele can damage the spermatogenic function of the testes through various mechanisms such as inducing oxidative stress damage,promoting apoptosis of spermatogonia,triggering chronic inflammatory reactions,and interfering with steroid hormone synthesis,thereby reducing male fertility.There is currently no specific drug for varicocele in clinical practice.And traditional Chinese medicine,with its multi-component,multi-target,and multi pathway characteristics,has shown unique advantages in improving testicular spermatogenic function damage caused by varicocele.Although there are relevant literature on the mechanism of testicular spermatogenic function damage caused by varicocele both domestically and internationally,there is currently a lack of systematic review and summary of traditional Chinese medicine in this field.Therefore,this article summarizes the relevant mechanisms of testicular spermatogenic function damage caused by varicocele and the research progress related with traditional Chinese medicine intervention,in order to provide a reference for the clinical application and in-depth research of traditional Chinese medicine in this field.
