Objective To examine the chain mediating effect of depressive symptoms and self-perceived burden between fear of di-sease progression and anxiety symptoms in patients with breast cancer.Methods This cross-sectional study included 210 postoperative patients with breast cancer.Assessment tools included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale,Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form,Patient Health Questionnaire-9,and the Self-Perceived Burden Scale.Mediation effects were tested using the PROCESS medi-ation model and the Bootstrap method.Results Anxiety symptoms were present in 69.5%of the patients.Fear of disease progression,depressive symptoms,self-perceived burden,and anxiety symptoms were all significantly and positively correlated(P<0.01).Depressive symptoms and self-perceived burden demonstrated a chain mediating effect between fear of disease progression and anxiety symptoms,accounting for 3.33%of the total effect.Conclusion Anxiety symptoms were highly prevalent among patients with breast cancer.Fear of disease progression indirectly influenced anxiety symptoms through depressive symptoms and self-perceived burden.Healthcare profes-sionals should address fear of disease progression in patients with breast cancer to reduce the risk of anxiety symptoms.
