Objective:To examine the association between maternal exposure to intimate partner violence(IPV)and infant neglect.Methods:A convenience sampling method was used to recruit 610 mothers with in one year postpartum.Infant neglect was assessed with the Signs of Neglect in Infants Assessment Scale to evaluate the degree of infant,and maternal IPV was evaluated using a checklist developed by the WHO Multi-country Study on Women's Health and Domestic Violence.Propensity score matching(1:4)was employed to balance sociodemo-graphic differences between IPV-positive and the IPV-negative groups.A total of 356 women were successfully matched(97 in IPV-positive group and 249 in IPV-negative group).Linear regression analyses were conducted to analyze the association between IPV and infant neglect.Results:Compared to the IPV-negative group,mothers in the IPV-positive group reported significantly higher scores for overall infant neglect(B=1.20,P＜0.01),ack of basic supervisory care(B=0.52,P＜0.01),lack of emotional behavior(B=0.22,P＜0.05),and child underde-velopment(B=0.46,P＜0.01).Conclusion:Maternal experience of IPV is a significant risk factor for infant neg-lect.Reducing intimate partner violence may be a key strategy in preventing infant neglect.
