The unprecedented Long March period in both human history and the history of the Communist Party of China(CPC)was an epoch when the CPC engaged in extensive contact with and in-depth understanding of ethnic minori-ties on a large scale for the first time,directly addressing complex ethnic affairs.It was a crucial phase in which the CPC integrated the Marxist ethnic theory with the realities of ethnic issues in China and the fine traditional Chinese culture,put forward a series of innovative viewpoints on ethnic theory and creative measures for ethnic policies,and explored the cor-rect path with Chinese characteristics to resolve ethnic issues.It was also the first time that the CPC formulated ethnic poli-cies in a relatively comprehensive and systematic innovative manner,the first time that the Party's ethnic policies were put into practice in the vast rural areas and workplaces of ethnic minority regions,and the first time that these policies un-derwent a full-scale test.Furthermore,this period witnessed a great awakening of ethnic minorities,as people from more than a dozen ethnic groups across multiple provinces joined the revolution,enlisted in the Red Army,and participated in the establishment of revolutionary base areas.The CPC's ethnic theory,policies,and related work during the Long March have provided important experience and enlightenment for the Party's ethnic work in subsequent stages.
