Effects of Stand Structure on Forest Growth:A Review
林分结构是森林经营中需要关注的关键因素,不仅直接关系到森林的生长与收获,也深刻影响着森林生态系统的稳定性、健康度、多功能性和可持续性.然而,林分结构对森林生长的影响机制十分复杂,目前尚缺乏系统性的归纳与总结.文中梳理林分结构与森林生长关系的相关研究,通过对现有文献的归纳与分析,得出以下主要结论:1)指标与研究方法的选择呈现多元化趋势.当前研究普遍采用从树种结构到空间格局的 7 类结构指标以及从单木到林分层次的 5 类森林生长指标,体现出研究视角的多元化.在方法上,回归分析和结构方程模型的应用尤为广泛,其中后者因能解析多变量间的直接和间接因果关系,在处理复杂系统问题时展现出独特优势.2)林分结构对森林生长的影响并非简单的线性关系,而是表现出正向促进、负向抑制或不相关(或不显著)等多种复杂响应,具有不确定性.林分结构对森林生长的正效应可用生态位互补效应、选择效应和植物-土壤反馈作用等理论进行解释,负效应和中性的情况可分别用植物对光的非对称性竞争、特定树木对林分生长的绝对优势等理论进行解释.通过解析林分结构与森林生长之间的关联,旨在为未来开展多尺度、多因素的整合研究与精准经营实践提供参考.
Forest stand structure is a key factor that must be considered in forest management.It not only influences forest growth and yield,but also profoundly influences ecosystem stability,health,multifunctionality,and sustainability.However,the mechanisms by which stand structure affects forest growth are highly complex and have not yet been systematically summarized.This paper reviews studies on the relationship between stand structure and forest growth,by synthesizing and analyzing existing literature,to draw the following main conclusions:1)There are diverse ways to be employed for indicator selection and research methodologies.Current studies widely adopt seven categories of stand structural indicators,ranging from tree species composition to spatial patterns,and five categories of forest growth indicators spanning from individual trees to stand,reflecting a multiplicity of research perspectives.Methodologically,regression analysis and structural equation modeling are particularly widely applied.The latter demonstrates unique advantages in addressing the complex systemic issues due to its capacity to elucidate both direct and indirect causal relationships among multiple variables;and 2)The influence of stand structure on forest growth is not a simple linear relationship but exhibits positive(promotive),negative(suppressive),or neutral(insignificant)relationships,characterized by inherent uncertainty.Positive effects can be explained by theories such as niche complementary effect,selection effects,and plant-soil feedback mechanisms.In contrast,negative or neutral effects may be attributed to theories like asymmetric competition for light among plants or the absolute dominance of specific trees in stand development.By analyzing the relationship between stand structure and forest growth,this study aims to provide a reference for integrated research across multiple scales and factors and for precision forest management practices in the future.
