This article systematically summarizes the clinical experience of Professor WU Wenyao in treating ulcerative colitis(UC)by stages.Basing on years of clinical practice,Professor WU classifies UC into the active stage and the remission stage for syndrome differentiation and treatment.During the active stage,the primary pathogenesis is dampness-heat accumulation,and the treatment focuses on clearing heat,resolving dampness,cooling blood,and stopping dysentery.In the remission stage,the core pathogenesis is spleen deficiency with dampness retention,and the treatment emphasizes invigorating the spleen,replenishing qi,resolving dampness,and harmonizing the stomach.Professor WU emphasizes the integration of holistic regulation and local treatment and adheres to the concept of prevention before disease onset,achieving remarkable clinical efficacy.By elaborating on Professor WU's staged syndrome differentiation approach,medication characteristics,and representative medical cases,this article provides valuable insights for the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)treatment of UC.
