The operation of the Five Circuits and Six Qi involves dynamic changes driven by multiple interrelated factors,which interweave with the progression of a patient's clinical manifestations.Professor Gu Zhishan proposes that,in order to grasp the dynamics of a disease within the cyclical rhythms of the Five Circuits and Six Qi,one must"carefully observe the pathogenesis while fully considering the appropriateness of qi."He summarizes a diagnostic and therapeutic approach of"discerning manifestations,differentiating timing,and grasping the pathogenesis".Manifestation differentiation includes observing climatic patterns,physical manifestations,disease manifestations,syndrome patterns,pulse signs,and so on.Timing differentiation,particularly in relation to the cyclical rhythms of the Five Circuits and Six Qi,constitutes a crucial aspect of"grasping the pathogenesis."Therefore,this article illustrates the clinical application of the approach through cases such as disease manifestations changing with annual cycles,symptom patterns varying according to the Remission Periods of Six-Meridian Diseases(liujing yujie shi),and pulse signs shifting in response to the Six Qi cycles.
