Before the national government of the Republic of China recovered the South China Sea Islands,it fully discussed the authorities responsible for the recovery,the scope of the islands to be recovered,and the names of the is-lands.Relevant archives and documents held in Taiwan reveal that the national government's discussions on reclaiming the South China Sea islands exhibited phased differences.In the preliminary discussion and preparation,the national gov-ernment of the Republic of China considered the issue of the recovery of the South China Sea islands from the perspec-tives of internal affairs and diplomacy.In the later stage,when specific plans for the recovery were being formulated,greater emphasis was placed on diplomatic implications and the application of principles of international law.However,the change of geographical names after the occupation of the South China Sea islands by Japan during the War of Resis-tance against Japanese Aggression caused certain troubles for the national government of the Republic of China to confirm the geographical names and the scope of recovery before the recovery of the South China Sea islands.
