Objective To examine the influence of different coach leadership styles on prosocial and antisocial behaviors in youth basketball athletes,as well as the mediating role of moral disengagement in sports.Methods A survey was conducted among adolescent basketball players from over 10 sports schools and youth training teams across eastern,central,and western geographical regions in China,utilizing research methods such as questionnaire surveys and expert interviews.Results 1)Democratic leadership style positively predicted prosocial behaviors in sports and negatively predicted moral disengagement and antisocial behaviors in sports.Autocratic leadership style positively predicted moral disengagement and antisocial behaviors in sports and negatively predicted prosocial behaviors in sports.Moral disengagement in sports positively predicted antisocial behaviors and negatively predicted prosocial behaviors in sports.2)Autocratic leadership style indirectly influenced antisocial behaviors in sports and prosocial behaviors toward opponents through the mediation of moral disengagement.Conclusion Different leadership styles and moral disengagement are predictive factors of prosocial and antisocial behaviors in youth basketball athletes.Moral disengagement in sports plays a partial mediating role between autocratic leadership style and both antisocial behaviors and prosocial behaviors toward opponents.
