Since the Qin and Han dynasties,the Guizhou region has exhibited distinct gateway charac-teristics.Both the central government and local officials have prioritized maintaining the smooth flow and security of Guizhous' corridors.This has shaped the region's cultural identity as a"gateway culture,"characterized by openness,inclusiveness,intermittency,ambiguity,and marginality.The advantages and disadvantages of Guizhou's geographical location,as well as the strengths and weaknesses of its regional culture,are closely linked to these gateway features.As a gateway,it serves as the"bloodline"for eco-nomic development,the"link"for cultural inheritance,a"model"for ecological protection,and a"ful-crum"for strategic opening-up.Further exploring the connotations of gateway culture and integrating it with modern development concepts will surely provide inexhaustible momentum for Guizhou to achieve leapfrog development in the process of building Chinese-style modernization.
