[Purpose/Significance]Since its funding,the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)has proactive-ly engaged in science and technology(S&T)strategic research,establishing dedicated institutions in different his-torical stages in response to-evolving national practical needs.This paper systematically sorts out the evolutionary history of institutions of CAS's S&T strategic research apparatus,offering valuable historical insights for building high-caliber S&T think tanks in the new era.[Method/Process]Based on archives records,policy documents,and publicly available reports,the study attempts to reconstruct the organizational structure and key work of CAS's S&T strategic research from a historical perspective.[Result/Conclusion]The S&T strategic research of CAS has evolved from being single-goal and simplistic in content to having clear objectives and diversified dimensions.The development of its organizational structure for conducting S&T strategic research exhibits distinctive phased characteristics.Driven by demands and practices,CAS's S&T strategic research system has been continuously improved.Throughout its development,CAS has consistently carried out strategic research as an integrated orga-nization and fulfill its role as a S&T think tank.
