Moxibustion,with its functions of warming and invigorating yang Qi,warming and unblocking Qi and blood,warming the meridians to dispel cold,and restoring yang to prevent collapse,can regulate the balance of yin and yang and is commonly used for the treatment and prevention of various diseases.Since ancient times,many medical practi-tioners have proposed the theoretical basis and practical verification for treating heat syndromes with moxibustion.Discus-sions in Huangdi Neijing(Huangdi's Internal Classic)such as"fire depression should be dispersed"and"twenty-nine moxibustion treatments for febrile diseases"already contain the concept of using moxibustion to disperse depressed heat and treat febrile diseases.During the Jin and Yuan dynasties,Liu Wansu advocated"leading heat outward",and Zhu Zhenheng proposed"using heat to lead out heat",further clarifying that moxibustion can be used for excess heat and depressed heat syndromes.In the Ming dynasty,Li Chan systematically explained the mechanism of treating heat syndromes with moxibus-tion in Yixue Rumen(Introduction to Medicine).Guided by these theories,the application of moxibustion for heat syn-dromes has been widely used in various conditions such as heat in the upper body with cold in the lower body,yin deficiency with internal heat,blood stasis with internal heat,and internal accumulation of damp-heat.Regarding contraindications for moxibustion,Shanghan Lun(Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases)and Wenbing Tiaobian(Systematic Differentiation of Warm Diseases)record that syndromes such as exuberant heat with fluid depletion,excess pathogens with yang blockage,and damp-heat congestion and stagnation are not suitable for moxibustion,highlighting the importance of syndrome differ-entiation in moxibustion application.Mentor Professor Tian Yuefeng has a deep understanding of the boundary between treating febrile diseases with moxibustion and its contraindications.In clinical practice,she flexibly applies methods such as indirect moxibustion to treat various heat syndromes based on pattern differentiation,achieving significant therapeutic ef-fects.This not only verifies the scientific nature of classical theories but also broadens the scope of modern clinical applica-tion of moxibustion,demonstrating its unique advantages of bidirectional regulation and guidance according to the situation.
