Economic Uncertainty and Corporate Green Innovation

经济不确定性是企业进行绿色创新决策的重要参考因素,考察二者之间的关系有助于厘清经济不确定性影响企业绿色创新的现实路径.以我国A股重污染行业上市企业 2007-2022 年的数据为样本,运用双向固定效应模型,实证检验了我国经济不确定性对企业绿色创新的影响.研究结果表明,经济不确定性降低了企业的绿色创新,且结论稳健.机制检验表明,经济不确定性对企业绿色创新的降低源于企业风险承担能力的弱化.异质性检验发现,经济不确定性对企业绿色创新的降低作用在国有企业和财务资源基础弱的企业中更有效,且这一降低作用在财政压力低的地区更明显.研究从经济不确定性角度拓展了企业绿色创新的影响因素,不仅为研究宏观经济不确定性对绿色创新的影响提供了基于我国企业的微观证据,还为政府如何制定协调"稳增长"和环保长期履责之间的关系的政策提供了启示.

Economic uncertainty is an important factor for enterprises to make green innovation deci-sions,and examining the relationship between the two helps to clarify the realistic path of economic un-certainty affecting enterprises'green innovation.This paper empirically examines the impact of China's economic uncertainty on firms'green innovation by using a two-way fixed-effects model with a sample of listed firms in China's A-share heavy-pollution industry from 2007 to 2022.The mechanism test in-dicates that the reduction of corporate green innovation by uncertainty economic stems from the weake-ning of corporate risk-taking ability,and the heterogeneity test finds that the reducing effect of econom-ic uncertainty on firms'green innovation is more effective among SOEs and firms with a weak financial resource base,and this reducing effect is more pronounced in regions with low financial pressure.The study expands the factors influencing firms'green innovation from the perspective of economic uncer-tainty,which not only provides micro evidence based on Chinese firms to study the impact of macroeco-nomic uncertainty on green innovation,but also provides insights into how governments can develop policy regimes that reconcile"steady growth"with long-term environmental responsibilities.
