The ginseng-rhizoma coptidis herbal pair is a classic compatibility of"attack-tonification combined",in which ginseng replenishes qi and rhizoma coptidis clears heat,achieving the effect of strengthening healthy qi and eliminating pathogenic factors.Based on the syndrome differentiation of eight principles,this paper explores the compatibility law and clinical application of the herbal pair,which is effective in"bitter-descending and sweet-harmonizing",and"clearing and tonifying in cmbination."It is commonly used for conditions such as sores,abscess and diabetes in internal excess-heat syndrome,gastric stuffiness and diarrhea in coldheat complex syndrome,and vomiting in halfexterior halfinterior syndrome,with dosage adjusted according to the predominance of cold or heat,deficiency or excess.
