Characteristic Analysis of a Hailstorm Echo in the Southern Foothills of the Western Tianshan Mountains Based on Dual-Polarization Phased-Array Radar

基于阿克苏X波段双极化相控阵天气雷达、雹谱仪及常规观测等资料,系统分析2024年8月23日西天山南麓雹暴过程中各回波参数的特征与差异.结果表明:此次雹暴过程源于多单体对流系统的组织化发展并得以长时间维持,伴随有典型的冰雹回波特征——V型缺口.组合反射率因子(CR)≥60 dBZ,强中心核结构密实且高度扩展至-20℃等温线以上,有利于冰雹的形成.垂直累积液态水密度(VILD)的变化趋势与垂直累积液态水含量(VIL)表现出较好的一致性,且VIL跃增和波动更显著,有助于强回波中心定位,可为雹暴的发展与演变趋势预测提供依据.较低的差分反射率(ZDR)、相关系数(CC)、差分传播相移率(KDP)和较高的CR共同出现,是指示冰水混合相态(尤其是冰雹区)的典型特征,该观测结果与水凝物分类(HCL)产品高度吻合.

Using observational data from the Aksu X-band dual-polarization phased-array weather radar,hail spectrometers,and conventional observations,this study systematically analyzes the characteristics and differences of echo parameters during a hailstorm event that occurred in the southern foothills of the western Tianshan Mountains on August 23,2024.The results indicate that the hailstorm originated from the organized development of a multicellular convective system,which persisted for an extended period and was accompanied by a typical hail signature—the V-notch.Hail formation is favored when the composite reflectivity(CR)reaches or exceeds 60 dBZ,accompanied by a compact intense echo core extending above the-20 ℃ isotherm.Moreover,the trend of vertical integrated liquid de-nsity(VILD)shows good consistency with that of vertical integrated liquid(VIL),while VIL exhibits more pronounced surges and fluctuations.These characteristics aid in locating strong echo cores and provide a basis for predicting hailstorm development and evolution.Polarimetric analysis reveals that high CR,combined with low differential reflectivity(ZDR),low correlation coefficient(CC),and low specific differential phase(KDP),serves as a typical indicator of mixed-phase hydrometeors,particularly in hail-dominated regions.These observations are highly consistent with the hydrometeor classification algorithm(HCL)products.
