This article introduces Professor HAN Guanxian's clinical experience in treating vertigo from the perspective of syndrome differentiation of six-meridian.Based on this theory,Professor HAN proposes that the core pathogenesis of vertigo is"the impaired pivot mechanism of Shaoyang as the root,accompanied by Yangming heat accumulation and Taiyin fluid retention as the branch."In clinical practice,he applies the"harmonizing method"as the overarching principle.Chaihu-associated prescriptions(such as Chaihu Jia Longgu Muli Decoction and Chaihu Guizhi Ganjiang Decoction)are primarily used to harmonize the Shaoyang pivot,while simultaneously clearing Yangming interior heat and warming and transforming Taiyin fluid retention.Metal-mineral Chinese medicinals with heavy-sedative effect(e.g.,calcined Os Draconis,Ostreae Concha,and Magnetitum)are used to subdue adverse qi.The combination of cold and warm natured Chinese medicinals(such as Scutellariae Radix and Coptidis Rhizoma combined with Zingiberis Rhizoma and Cinnamomi Ramulus)harmonizes yin and yang.The simultaneous application of unblocking and tonifying methods(e.g.,Rhei Radix et Rhizoma combined with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma and Jujubae Fructus)protects stomach qi.This is complemented by behavioral adjustments like"avoiding intake of uncooked and cold foods and balancing work with rest."This comprehensive approach yields satisfactory outcomes in treating vertigo.
