The People-Oriented Nature of the Yellow Emperor and the Formation of Mausoleum Sacrifices to Yellow Emperor as Recorded in Historical Records
During the Pre-Qin and Han dynasties, due to the unique status of the Yellow Emperor, only the ruling emperors were generally allowed to offer sacrifices to him.In extant texts, whether it is the sacrificial offering to the Yellow Emperor in"Guoyu"or the mausoleum sacrifices to the Yellow Emperor recorded in Historical Records, both are closely associated with emperors,a phenomenon inseparable from the development of the concept of the Mandate of Heaven. As a form of sacrificial offering to the Yellow Emperor, mausoleum sacrifice also evolved in connection with the development of the Mandate of Heaven concept during the Qin and Han periods. However, compared to other forms of sacrifice, mausoleum sacrifice of the Yellow Emperor carried a more people-oriented nature and a greater sense of public significance.
