From October 31 to November 2,2025,the International Academic Symposium on"The Modern Value of Historical Records Research"—commemorating the 2170th anniversary of Sima Qian's birth and marking the 22nd annual conference of the Chinese Historical Records Research Society—was held in Hancheng,Shaanxi Province.The event brought together 200 scholars and experts from 68 universities across 10 countries.All delegates participated in a ceremonial tribute at the Sima Qian Temple with profound reverence for Sima Qian,the Grand Historian and a shared commitment to cultural heritage preservation.A total of 143 papers were submitted for the symposium.The 21st volume of the Collected Essays on Historical Records Studieswas published,and the Proceedings of the International Symposium on the Modern Value of Historical Records Researchwere compiled and distributed.Eleven scholars delivered keynote presentations and outlining a development road-map for the next decade with focus on"deepening textual research—exploring modern relevance—strengthening the spiritual foundations of the Chinese nation."This has laid an important foundation for the internationalization and theorization of Historical Recordsstudies.As a high-level international academic gathering,this symposium stands as the largest and most prestigious among all previous Historical Records-related conferences.It brought together leading authorities from around the world to concentrate on the contemporary significance of Historical Records,showcasing vibrant scholarly continuity and yielding substantial outcomes.The symposium not only charted a clear course for the discipline's advancement but also embodied significant academic and cultural value.Its resounding success carries profound and lasting implications for the field.
