The digital economy empowers the development of new quality productivity through artificial intelligence and generates spatial spillover effects.Based on the panel data of 285 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2011 to 2022,the study finds that the digital economy has a significant positive effect on enhancing new quality productivity,and this conclusion has passed multiple robustness tests.Mechanism analysis indicates that artificial intelligence is an important mediating mechanism for the digital economy to promote the development of new quality productive forces.The analysis of spatial spillover effects shows that the empowerment of the digital economy on new quality productivity generally presents a negative spatial spillover effect.The eastern region shows a diffusion effect,while the central and western regions show a siphon effect.Based on the research conclusions,policy suggestions for improving the construction of digital infrastructure,perfecting the artificial intelligence empowerment mechanism,and promoting coordinated regional development have been put forward,aiming to vigorously empower the development of new quality productive forces by leveraging the digital economy.
