现实主义在"五四"话剧的文体理论建构过程中经历了一个由宏观"主义"的思想层面到微观"方法"的实践层面的转变过程.在胡适《易卜生主义》所确立的认识论阶段,现实主义既指明了中国话剧各个有机组成部分的文体建设方向,也决定了后来人们关于戏剧反映现实的审视角度与主流看法.然而随着现代话剧舞台实践的逐步展开,以现实主义认识论代替方法论做法的弊端开始逐渐显现,从而促使了人们对于现实主义艺术理论的新的文体探索.但由于中国国情所导致的现实主义认识论的权威过于强大,此后中国现代话剧的现实主义理论也逐渐陷入了迷失.

Realism underwent a transformation in the construction of stylistic theory for the'May Fourth'drama,shifting from a macro-level ideological"ism"to a micro-level practical"method".In the epistemological stage established by Hu Shi's concept of Ibsenism,realism not only pointed out the direction for the stylistic construction of various organic components of Chinese drama,but also influenced subsequent perspectives and mainstream views on the role of drama in reflecting reality.However,as modern drama practices evolved on stage,the drawbacks of replacing methodological practices with realist epistemology begin to emerge,prompting new stylistic explorations in realist art theory.Yet,due to the overwhelming authority of realist epistemology rooted in China's unique national conditions,Chinese modern drama's realist theory gradually lost its way.
