The effect of air pollution on the settlement intention of the elderly floating population
This study investigates the impact of air pollution on elderly migrants' settlement intention based on CMDS survey from 2017 to 2018 by employing a logistic model. The empirical results show that:First, urban air pollution decreases elderly floating population's settlement intention. When the level of Air Quality Index(AQI)increasing one unit, the probability of settlement intention decreased by 0.5%;Second,air pollution has heterogeneous impacts in terms of intention to migrate patterns and individual characteristics. On the individual side, air pollution decreases the settlement intention for elderly immigrants with agir-hukou,lower education level and lower-income.On the migrate pattern side, the sensitivity of air quality is higher among elderly migrants with longer migration time and home town with less air pollution. Our research enriches the relevant theoretical achievements of air pollution and migrants' settlement intention,at the same time,it promotes the urban air quality and elderly care infrastructure.
